Do I need to be an experienced rider to ride the King of the Mountain?
No racing experience is required as you are not racing in a large pack of riders – it is a great test of your fitness. The event, however, is very physically challenging and riders should be in good enough shape to climb 1,830 in only 3.7 miles.
Can I register by mail - KOM?
Now that the on-line registration period has ended, riders may now use the on-site registration at St. Victor's Church at 3150 Sierra Rd. from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. On-site registration is $40.

Can I take lightrail to the King of the Mountain ride?
Yes, you can. The lightrail Berryessa Rd. station will place you at Capitol and Berryessa. Sierra Road is approximately 4/10ths of a mile north of the station. At Sierra Rd, turn right, heading towards the foothills on Sierra Rd for approximately 9/10ths of a mile to St. Victor’s Church for registration and check-in for KOM.
Where do I park to pick up my ride materials the day of the event?
Parking is available at St. Victor's Church at 3150 Sierra Rd.
Are there restroom facilities on the route?
For your convenience, chemical toilets will be provided at St. Victor's Church and at the summit.
What time should I arrive to pick up my ride materials?
Event staff will be available between 8:00 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. Slower riders are encouraged to leave with the earliest start groups to ensure that they'll complete the ride before 10:45 a.m.
Can my equipment be transported to the summit?
The sag wagon will not be able to bring jackets or other equipment to the summit.
How do I get to the Start Line?
Signs will mark the short distance between St. Victor's and the beginning of the ride. Turn right out of the parking lot/staging area. You are on Sierra Rd going east towards the foothills for about 4/10ths of a mile. Just past the Olivera Egg Ranch is the KOM start point on your right side. Make sure to stop to allow the timer to record your bib number.
When does the ride start?
Beginning at 9:00 a.m., riders will start in groups in 5 minute increments. The final group will leave at 9:30 a.m.
What if I don't finish by 10:45 a.m.?
Because the Amgen Tour of California will be ascending the same climb, KOM riders still on the route at 10:45 a.m. will be asked to retire from the ride and move off the road or to accept a ride in the sag wagon. If you need help, raise your left fist and pull to the side of the road to await assistance.
What weather conditions are likely?
The weather is variable in May so please review the weather report the morning of the event. Conditions at the summit tend to be windy, so you should bring a jacket.
Will I be able to check my equipment at the summit?
A bicycle parking area will be designated. There is no vallet service for individual jackets, coats or other equipment.
Is the route closed to vehicle traffic?
No, you must obey all relevant and applicable motor vehicle laws. Please pay close attention to traffic lights and turn signals – this is a “rules of the road” ride. Do not ride more than two abreast and please do not impede motor vehicle traffic in any way.

Official times will be posted Thursday, May 20th.
Where are the Awards?
An Awards Ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 20 at Camera 12 - 201 S. Second Street in Downtown San Jose. Attendees will also be able to attend a free screening of the classic 1979 cycling movie Breaking Away following the awards.
